As negotiations with PanMed are off, Grimaldi Holding charters the ship to Trasmediterranea while in talks with DFDS for her sistership
Grimaldi Holding’s ro-pax Audacia has been time chartered deck & engine at 19,000 euros a day for 30 days to Spanish company Acciona Trasmediterranea and will sail on the same trade Valencia-Palma de Mallorca (with a weekly call at Mahon) she already operated in the past precisely for the latter company (S2S n. 39/2008).
The ro-pax is the second of the 8 sisterships owner Aldo Grimaldi ordered from Marina di Carrara-based Nuovi Cantieri Apuania yard and, together with 4 of her sisterships, still in the hands of Grimaldi after he left Genoa-based Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). With her 199 meters loa, a 2,500 linear meters garage (able to host up to 178 full-length trucks and some 100 cars) and a maximum speed of 23.5 knots, Audacia will replace Murillo, moved to Canary Islands in order to replace in turn Albayzin (former Maria Grazia On and owned by Moby), to be docked in Genoa for repairs.
According to a source close to Grimaldi Holding, Dutch company DFDS’ technicians would be inspecting in Marina di Carrara Audacia’s sistership Energia, delivered last September (S2S n. 35/2010) and currently unrigged in this port (DFDS already owns a sistership of hers, renamed Lisco Maxima). Energia is slightly different from her sisterships: loa 200 meters, 3,000 linear meters garage, 900 passengers, and cruising speed about 25 knots.
Of the other Grimaldi Holding’s still-owned sisterships, Forza and Tenacia are chartered to GNV, while Coraggio to Stena (S2S n. 28/2010) with a buy option expiring in September. According to rumours, Audacia and Energia would have been kept idle because of negotiations with Alfonso Milani’s PanMed, which then turned off as the advance payment was never made. At that time, in view of the sale, Grimaldi would have refused to charter the ships out to Sardinia region’s company Saremar, which subsequently reached an agreement with the Visentini group (S2S n. 21/2011).
