T. Mariotti and Nuovi Cantieri Apuania shortlisted to build RFI’s second ro-pax
Both shipyards took part in the public tender launched for a new unit set to be deployed on the Strait of Messina
Genoa-based T.Mariotti (together with sister companies San Giorgio del Porto and Tecnavi) and Marina di Carrara-based Nuovi Cantieri Apuania are the two shipyards which submitted an offer to build a second ro-pax ship for RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) to be deployed between the two shores of the Strait of Messina for the transport of trains, coaches, trucks, passengers and cars.
October 8th was the closing date reported in the public bid launched in July by RFI for submitting offers to build a second unit which must be a sister ship of the Messina delivered by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in 2013. Starting price is €53 million and construction time 495 days.
Apart from NCA and T.Mariotti no other shipyards submitted their offers according to RFI.
A final decision will be announced as soon as all the technical and economic evaluations of both the offers will be completed.
