Rimorchiatori Riuniti also takes Capieci over
Genoa-based group bought, through subsidiary Rimorchiatori Mediterranei, the towage company operating in Messina and Milazzo
Gruppo Rimorchiatori Riuniti negotiated a further remarkable deal in Sicily after the one sealed in 2016 taking over Augustea Imprese Marittime e Salvataggi.
In fact, the company helmed by the Gavarone and Delle Piane families formalized, through subsidiary Rimorchiatori Mediterranei (35% participated by DWS, Deutsche Bank group), 100% takeover of Capieci Spa Navigazione, Rimorchiatori e Salvataggio, holding towage-service concessions in Milazzo and Messina and controlled by Gruppo Ca.Fi.Ma of Naples.
“By sealing this deal, Rimorchiatori Mediterranei definitely strengthens its leadership in the towage business in Italy, the Mediterranean and particularly in Sicily where the company is already operating through subsidiary Rimorchiatori Augusta Spa in Augusta, Siracusa, Pozzallo and Catania”, reports the group.
The takeover was backed by Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena which granted 30 million Euro long-term loan.
Rimorchiatori Mediterranei also states that “according to Ca.Fi.Ma., the sale follows the complete settlement of Capieci's long lasting legal dispute started by a group of shareholders holding substantial minority shares.
The dispute prevented from evaluating alternative strategies to be competitive in Italy and not only, while also focusing on forthcoming tender for the renewal of concessions.
