New York is big for Grimaldi
The newbuilding ro-ro is the second PCTC ordered at Jinling shipyard of China
The second in a series of three 12-deck PCTCs built by Jinling shipyard of China was handed over to the Grimaldi Group and left Nanjing for Antwerp. She will be deployed on the weekly Mediterranean-US East Coast ro-ro service calling at Gemlik (Turkey), Gioia Tauro (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy), Savona (Italy), Halifax, New York, Baltimore, Veracruz (Mexico) and Antwerp (Belgium).
The 199.9m by 32.26m ro-ro Grande New York,is a sister to the Grande Baltimora which had been delivered earlier; last ship in the series is Grande Halifax with delivery slated for January 2018.
Such Panamax PCTCs are a modified version of a quartet of PCTCs that Jinling built for Gram Car Carriers. The 62,134 GT ro-ro have a capacity of 6,700 CEUs or a combination of 4,000 lanemetres of rolling freight and 2,500 CEUs.
The ship's electronically-controlled two-stroke MAN B&W main engine complies with the new regulations for reducing NOx emissions; as the vessels operate in SECAs, they have also been equipped with Alfa Laval scrubbers.
