For the first time, Wista Italia – Italian Chapter of Women International Shipping and Trading Association with over 3,000 shipping professionals coming from over 40 countries worldwide – chose a Sardinia president to represent women's growing presence within the international maritime cluster.

During the annual meeting of the Italian chapter of the association representing women managers and professionals in the shipping sector, held in Genoa in late October aboard MSC Splendida of Gianluigi Aponte's company, the new Governing Council for the next two-year period 2017-2019 was appointed.

The new president is Daniela Aresu, with Vice President and treasurer Paola Tongiani, Contact Person Barbara Gallo, Councillors Gabriella Reccia, Alberta Frondoni, Barbara Pozzolo and Patrizia Lupi.

“The new Board guarantees continuity”, Wista Italia's official note reads. “As a matter of fact, Paola Tongiani's, Daniela Aresu's and Alberta Frondoni's offices were renewed, adding new members Barbara Gallo, Patrizia Lupi, Gabriella Reccia and Barbara Pozzolo”.

Chartered accountant, auditor and business consultant Paola Tongiani works at Studio Casani & Associati in Carrara.

Daniela Aresu works in Cagliari as a lawyer specialized in maritime and transport law.

The Genoese Barbara Gallo, owner of the shipping consulting company Maritime & Corporate Affairs, will take care of the association's Italian and international relations.

Alberta Frondoni is a Genoese lawyer and teacher specialized in insurance and transport law.

Journalist and Administrator of a communication agency Patrizia Lupi, from Livorno, former manager of Livorno and Civitavecchia Port Authority, will be the association's press officer.

The Neapolitan lawyer Gabriella Reccia is Nova Marine Group's (Romeo-Duferco) General Counsel with registered office in Lugano (Switzerland).

The Genoese Barbara Pozzolo is a supreme court attorney and mediator specialised in transport law, as well as newly appointed Genoa Airport SpA's Board Director.

During the meeting held aboard the luxury cruise ship also the Board of Arbitrators was appointed: Genoa Merchant Navy Academy Director (and previous Wista Italia's President) Daniela Fara; Viareggio-based Yacht Broker Srl's Foreign Office Manager Monica Bertacca; FCM srl's, an Italian company specialised in human resource management consultancy within the shipping sector, Sole Administrator Serena Scordamaglia.

The newly appointed president extended her heartfelt thanks to the former president for the work carried out during the past two-year period. “During the past two years, Michela Fucile managed Wista with competence and professionalism, increasing the association's visibility within Italian and international shipping, as well as in the nautical sector, strategic for maritime economy. I plan to encourage new members to join our association and to favour relations with Wista Med and Wista International”, Daniela Aresu explained.

“The new Board, that will hold office for two years, is determined to continue with renewed commitment the former Board's work aiming at developing its networking among its Italian and foreign members, as well as at implementing training and promoting the association in Italian and international meetings. An awareness campaign for women working within the maritime sector will aim at involving an increasing the number of members from all over Italy to create a network connecting all shipping women professionals, with Wista's typical attitude, being useful both from a professional perspective and as an opportunity to make contacts and exchange ideas and experiences. We will plan initiatives to promote and support women, at all levels, in the various maritime economy sectors, where women's presence is scarcely represented or encouraged”, the association explained in its official press release.

The newly appointed Board will attend the Italian Forum on “Achievable shipping training” scheduled for November the 8th in Rome, at the General Command of the Coast Guards headquarters. As the event will involve its member Anna Izzo, it is going to be supported by WISTA Italia.

During the association's monthly meeting scheduled for November the 17th in Genoa, the Board will present its work programme for next year.

Finally, the traditional end of year dinner attended by the association's members and their direct interlocutors will probably be held in December.
