Italian shipping companies raised 110,000 euro to support research against childhood diseases

The 15th Invitational Shipping Pro-am, first edition of the Paolo Messina Memorial Prize, delivered a considerable cheque to the Childhood Kidney Diseases Foundation (FMRB) of the Children’s Hospital Gaslini

Once again, the sponsors of the fifteenth Invitational Shipping Pro-am donated a considerable cheque to support the research of the Childhood Kidney Diseases Foundation (FMRB) operating in favour of the Children’s Hospital Gaslini in Genoa.

The golf competition hosted by the Rapallo Golf & Tennis Club allowed to raise 110,000 euro. From this year, the event is entitled Paolo Messina Memorial since FMRB President Enrico Verrina and the Directors of the Foundation decided to name the initiative after the entrepreneur, shipowner and supporter of the Foundation who passed away last March the 3rd.

In remembrance of the Genoese shipowner and of its simplicity and spontaneity, during the evening they awarded an important prize to those who stood out for their particular generosity, self-denial, sacrifice and care in an activity carried out in favour of the Foundation’s objectives and purposes.

During its first edition, the ‘Paolo Messina Memorial’ Prize was awarded to two researchers who, in the face of a serious organizational problem, volunteered to help and allowed the Nephrology Department of the Hospital to effectively continue the evaluation and reporting of kidney biopsies for children hospitalized in the Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplant Department.

The patroness of the event was the wonderful champion Lea Pericoli, who has attended this solidarity competition to support the Foundation and the research against childhood kidney diseases since its first edition.

Thanks to the Invitational Shipping Pro-Am, in the past fifteen years, over 1.5 million Euro were donated to the Foundation in order to continue its vital research projects. This significant result was achieved thanks to the passion and cooperation of both the organizers and the generous Sponsors.
