German debut at the Pillars of Hercules to start the cruise season
Gibraltar port hosts the inaugural call of the TUI Cruises’ newbuilding Mein Schiff 2
First inaugural call by a cruise ship for this year at the port of Gibraltar.
TUI Cruises’ newbuilding Mein Schiff 2, just completed by Meyer Werft in Finland for the German based joint venture cruise company of TUI Group and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., was christened in Lisbon on 9 February 2019 during its maiden voyage.
The 111,500 GT vessel is a sister ship to the Mein Schiff 1, which was delivered to the German cruise company in April 2018. Both vessels feature a length of 315 metres and a width of 36 metres, making them 20 metres longer than their predecessors. The 16-deck cruise ship has 1447 state-rooms with a maximum capacity of 2,894 passengers and some 1,000 crew; over 80% of the rooms are outside cabins. Latest innovations, state of the art equipment and environmentally friendly construction characterise the newest member of the German fleet.
During summer, the Mein Schiff 2 will be sailing from homeport at Palma de Mallorca on various itineraries in the Western Mediterranean before heading to the Caribbean in October where it will be sailing from Bridgetown and La Romana.
