Garrè & C. led the group of cycling benefactors

The second edition of the charity Genoa Shipping Ride, organised by International Shipping Runners with the contribution of many generous sponsors such as S. Giorgio del Porto and RINA, was a great success

The second edition of the charity Genoa Shipping Ride, a non-competitive cycle race organized by the charitable association International Shipping Runners – founded in 2010 by a group of Genoese shipping operators and currently boasting also foreign members and supporters – with the precious support of some generous sponsors (Bentleys, Cinciano, Elpis Rowing Club, Rina Academy, San Giorgio del Porto, The Standard Club, Siccardi Bregante & C and Italian Yacht Club) and under the guide of  maritime lawyers Angelo Merialdi and Pietro Dagnino, was very successful.

“The beautiful eastern Ligurian Riviera extending from Genoa to Portofino, as well as the bright sunshine and an excellent group of cyclists made this event a success”, one of the 40 courageous participants observed. The race was along two different routes: a longer and more demanding route of almost 100 km, and another 75 km route from Genoa to Portofino and return.

Among the most renowned shipping personalities cycling along the steep Ruta and Monte Fasce slopes there was also Ferdinando Garrè, representing the chief sponsor Cantiere San Giorgio del Porto and the Tuscan agritourism enterprise Cinciano, a crowd of passionate lawyers including Aldo Mordiglia and Corrado Bregante, with marine paint manager Massimo Zanone (Chugoku-Boat) and the representatives of P&I Club Brokers, PL Ferrari and First, as well as a large group of British insurers and lawyers.

Several pictures and a video depict all the Italian and international shipping personalities who took part in the race including a very pleasant stop in Portofino, where they enjoyed a lavish breakfast offered by YCI Chairman Nicolò Reggio.

The promoters of the charity initiative to raise funds for the Hematology Department of the Paediatric Hospital Giannina Gaslini of Genoa voiced their satisfaction: “We raised more than 2,500 euro – thanks to the coverage of out-of pocket expenses by our sponsors – outscoring the result achieved in 2017”, Merialdi pointed out.

The cycling race was preceded by a “pasta party” held at Palazzo Ducale, while after the race many participants gathered at the Elpis Rowing Club in the port of Genoa for a goodbye to 2019 cocktail.
