Fincantieri to outsource foils logistic operations in Monfalcone and Marghera
The group founded a joint venture with ArcelorMittal CLN and Palescandolo to recover storage areas within the two yards
Due to record-breaking orders, Fincantieri founded, with ArcelorMittal CLN Distribuzione Italia and Palescandolo Lavorazioni Siderurgiche, a new joint venture aimed at managing logistic services – and other works – of foils manufactured in Marghera and Monfalcone.
The company, renamed Centro Servizi Navali SpA, will be operating in San Giorgio di Nogaro-Udine, across the industrial site once taken by ArcelorMittal CLN Distribuzione Italia, currently taken over by the joint venture after having been converted. The new installations will recruit overall 19 workers.
According to Fincantieri, in order to achieve success and take advantage from each partners' skills, majority shareholders ArcelorMittal CLN and Palescandolo will jointly run Centro Servizi Navali, while minority shareholding group will provide “growing operations due to a long-term contract covering the management of foils logistics services and other commitments.
Fincantieri also confirmed that the new accord is encompassed within the group's outsourcing strategy aimed at recovering new areas in Monfalcone and Marghera installations, required to handle the growing operations”.
Fiom Cgil of Venice countered the initiative stating that foils production is one of the better performing area of expertise of Marghera and the whole group”.
According to Venice-based Fiom-Cgil, Fincantieri's decision to found this joint venture is encompassed within a huge industrial de-commitment which will induce Porto Marghera to slip away into an industrial irrelevance”.
