Saras ready to start low-sulphur bunkering supply
Managing Director Scaffardi: “We already chartered a small scale ship in, we'll start operating in few weeks”
As confirmed to Staffetta Quotidiana, by Managing Director Mario Scaffardi, Saras, Italian oil company controlled by the Moratti family, will shortly start providing low-sulphur bunkering services in Cagliari, also adding they already chartered a first unit in.
No further details about the small-scale ship were disclosed, however, according to Ship2Shore, the company will allegedly deploy the Atlantic, chemical tanker built in 2002, with 6,000 dwt capacity, controlled by Sweden-based Alba Tankers.
Charter terms are still unknown, the only substantiated news is the clear intention of the Moratti family to start this new business they particularly trust.
Scaffardi also confirmed they already started 0.5% sulphur fuel production and confide this business has a great growth potential because no bunkering service exists in Cagliari, Sardinia is the core of the Mediterranean and can definitely compete with other sites like Malta.
Saras' Managing Director had already announced the project last November, and the company submitted an application to Harbour Master's Office in January 2019 to be authorized providing bunkering services in the port.
