From June 2007 until March 2010, De Micheli was councillor for Human and economic-financial resources of the Municipality of Piacenza.

She was deputy of the Italian Republic during the 16th legislature, as well as member of the “Budget” Committee and of the bicameral Committee “for simplification”.

After the elections held on February the 24th and 25th 2013, she was re-elected at the Chamber of Deputies among PD Members of Parliament.

She is a Deputy of the 17th legislature as well as PD acting vice president at the Chamber of Deputies.

In 2018 she was re-elected deputy.

On April the 17th 2019, together with Andrea Orlando, De Micheli was appointed deputy secretary of the PD Party by its new national secretary Nicola Zingaretti.
