Paola De Micheli (PD) entrusted with the Ministry of Transport in Italy
The 46 years old politician, born in Piacenza, was managing director of the cooperative Agridoro
Democratic Party (PD) Deputy Secretary Paola De Micheli was appointed Minister of Infrastructures and Transports of the Italian Conte-bis government, while Five Star Movement (M5S) senator Stefano Patuanelli was appointed Minister of Economic Development.
The news was announced by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte before the vow at the Quirinale Palace with which the Government took up office.
Having graduated in Political Sciences at the Cattolica del Sacro Cuore University in Milan, De Micheli lives and works in Piacenza as manager of Consorzio Cooperativo Conserve Italia in the agri-food sector. She engaged in politics in the mid-nineties, when Italian centre-left politicians joined forces in the Ulivo Party.
According to Wikipedia, from October 1998 until October 2003 she was chairman and managing director of the cooperative Agridoro dealing with the processing of tomatoes, which was put under receivership. In her capacity as chairman pro tempore of said cooperative, on December the 3rd 2003 she was convicted of breach of hygiene regulations governing the production and sale of foodstuffs by the Court of Piacenza.
From June 1999 until May 2004, De Micheli was municipal councillor in Pontenure.
When Pier Luigi Bersani was appointed secretary of the Democratic Party, she joined the Department of Economics of the Democratic Party – coordinated by Stefano Fassina – as national person in charge of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. Since 2007, she is a member of the Democratic Party provincial directorate of Piacenza.
From June 2007 until March 2010, De Micheli was councillor for Human and economic-financial resources of the Municipality of Piacenza.
She was deputy of the Italian Republic during the 16th legislature, as well as member of the “Budget” Committee and of the bicameral Committee “for simplification”.
After the elections held on February the 24th and 25th 2013, she was re-elected at the Chamber of Deputies among PD Members of Parliament.
She is a Deputy of the 17th legislature as well as PD acting vice president at the Chamber of Deputies.
Since October 2014 she is Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economics and Finance.
In 2018 she was re-elected deputy.
On April the 17th 2019, together with Andrea Orlando, De Micheli was appointed deputy secretary of the PD Party by its new national secretary Nicola Zingaretti.
