New train from China also for Alibaba
The e-commerce giant received the first container sent by railway in Belgium
Also Alibaba started transporting freights using the railway network connecting China to the Old Continent.
In fact, the first train transporting containers from the Chinese town Yiwu and managed by the logistics company Cainiao – a subsidiary of Yiwu-based Chinese e-commerce giant and main Amazon’s competitor – recently arrived in Liège (Belgium).
The train had a transit time of 17 days and it transported 82 TEUs. In Liège, containers were unloaded in the eHub logistics platform purposely created by Alibaba Cainiao Network, before being sorted to be sent across Europe. The China Railway Express service organized by Cainiao on behalf of Alibaba is the first train devoted to e-commerce between Asia and Europe.
The connection is the result of a collaboration between the city of Yiwu, in the Zhejiang region, where most low cost Chinese products are manufactured, and the Electronic World Trade Platform created by Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma.
