New intermodal connection between Melzo and Bari
The service is operated by GTS Rail in collaboration with Five Logistics. The frequency of the Bologna-Bari connection will be doubled shortly
The new triweekly intermodal connection between Bari and Melzo was launched on March the 22nd.
The service is operated by GTS Rail, providing traction to the 510 meters long train with a 1,600 tons capacity, featuring 60’ and 90’ wagons and pocket-wagons, in collaboration with Bari-based Five Logistics, dealing with tank wagons, ADR freights and logistics services.
Departures from the Rail Hub Milano terminal in Melzo (within Contship’s group) are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while from Scalo Ferruccio in Bari trains depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. GTS pointed out that they provide door-to-door services through their corporate fleet consisting of 2,500 45’ Hc containers, and terminal-to-terminal services, also on a spot basis.
“We further strengthened our presence on the Adriatic line”, where the following connections are already operating: Milan-Bari (six times per week), Piacenza-Bari (seven times per week) and Bologna-Bari (triweekly, though it will provide six departures per week “shortly”), for a total of “19 train pairs per week, amounting to a total capacity of 1,254 TEUs per each direction”, the company concluded.
