French-Spanish alliance (on a Russian background) in logistics
Gefco and Bergé make a partnership to develop altogether the automotive business in Spain through a new joint venture
Gefco of France (although owned by Russian Railways RZD) and Bergé of Spain have signed a strategic agreement to set up a joint venture in order to strengthen finished vehicle operations in Spain, a fast developing market; the Spanish car industry produces some 3 million vehicles a year and exports 2.4 million.
The new company, to be called Bergé Gefco, can combine the fleets and resources of both companies’ divisions in the Iberian country so to offer customers a complete range of finished vehicle services, including transport, technical services, inspection and delivery.
The goal of the alliance is to build stronger relationships with customers and help them improve processes, make the best of existing resources and increase responsiveness, by benefitting from 340 hectares of storage space and ports and the ability to coordinate and transport 1.4 million cars per year in a combined fleet of over 700 trucks and 100 train wagons, as well as a wide range of additional services at 10 logistics centres throughout Spain, including repair and painting, car wash, delivery preparation and quality and accessorisation.
Bergé Gefco, with headquarters at Ciempozuelos (Madrid), has 650 employees, 40,000 sq.m storage space and 10 logistics centres in: Ciempozuelos, Pinto and Villa Verde (Madrid), Barcelona and Tarragona (Catalonia), Sagunto (Valenzia), Vigo and Porrioro (Pontevedra), Santander and Zaragoza, being represented in 26 ports throughout Spain.
